Building in Mumbai can now have lifts to the terrace
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation made the decision to allow the developers as well as the residential societies to install lifts up to the terrace of the building.
Presently, due to the ambiguity in Development Control Rules, developers or builders used to install lifts only up to top floors. Now, civic chiefs have provided his consent to erect lift shaft up to the terrace.
This certainly will be applicable to all new and old buildings and is actually permissible free of floor space index. If the society or the builder wants an existing building to avail of the entire facilities one only requires informing the department of building proposal.
The activists have lauded the move which will especially advantage the senior citizens, many of whom find it tough to access terraces if there is no lift.
The chief engineers of Development Plan Department believe that in view of the increasing demand from people, requirement for additional recreational regions for inhabitants and make sure optimum use of terrace, the decision has been taken by Municipal Commissioner.
Builders or developers have to provide lift access up to the terraces now. When buying an apartment, the buyers don’t pay for the apartment but also for the undivided right, interest in common space and title of the society.
